What is the best way to get to the Student Care Center? A
You can come to the Student Care Center (SCC) through various entrances to the University of Chicago hospital. You can enter through the Ellis entrance and follow the signs to the SCC. You can also enter through the Cancer center research/Goldblatt entrance on 59th Street and take a left after you pass through the lobby. Please see Finding the SCC for more detail. Q
Where is the Student Care Center? A
The Student Care Center is located in the University of Chicago Hospital building at 860 E. 59th Street Q
When is the Student Care Center open? A
The SCC phone lines are forwarded to voicemail after 4:30pm. The first Wednesday of each month there will be a staff meeting at the SCC from 8:00 - 9:00 am. Telephones will not be taken off night service and SCC staff will not be available until 9:00 am. Also, every 4th Tuesday of each month the SCC Nurses will be not be available until 9:00 am but the SCC reception staff will be taking calls. Q
If I have an urgent medical, gynecological, or emotional problem and the on-call provider directs me to the Emergency room what happens? A
The Emergency Room services are NOT COVERED under the Student Health and Wellness fee. ER Services are an insurance charge. Tell the Emergency Room staff that you are a student and make sure to take your insurance card. Q
What are the hours and location of the DCAM pharmacy? A
The pharmacy is located in the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine (58th and Cottage Grove Ave) on the first floor near the gift shop. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is (773) 834-7002. Q
I am planning to study abroad and require travel vaccinations. How do I go about this? A
The first step one should take is to make an appointment with an SCC provider. During this visit, the SCC health care provider will discuss the recommended vaccinations and medications that are recommended for the particular country of travel. Immunizations are not covered under the Student Health and Wellness Fee although there is a reduced price for vaccines required for University of Chicago sponsored travel. Q
What services are covered by Student Health and Wellness fee? A
The following services are covered when performed within the SCC or SCRS by its clinical staff. Health and medical care visits with any SCC Provider: Womancare, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Nursing staff, Sports Medicine Physician, Nutrition Services, and Health Education are covered. Additionally the following services are covered:

What services are NOT covered by Student Health and Wellness fee? A
The following services are NOT covered by the Student Health and Wellness fee, and are the responsibility of you (the student) and/or your health insurance plan to pay. Please check with your insurance representative for health coverage on the following services. SCC and SCRS staff are not responsible for knowing the terms of your health insurance coverage.

What is “Urgent Care” and where is it located? A
Urgent Care is an appointment-based clinic for student with urgent medical needs. It is not a walk-in clinic; students must make appointments to be seen in Urgent Care. The Urgent Care is open on Saturday only from 8:30-10:30 AM and is located on the 3rd floor, Suite 3B, of the DCAM building. You will use the Urgent Care on Saturday mornings when the SCC is closed and you have an urgent medical need, such as a sprain, fever, severe pain, etc. Do NOT use the Urgent Care clinic for annual check-ups, travel visits, or starting birth control.
