Physical Therapy

There are three options for University of Chicago Students needing physical therapy services.

Option 1: Henry Crown Physical Therapy

Physical therapy services are available at the Henry Crown Field House for students at no additional charge under the Student Health and Wellness Fee. These services are provided by physical therapists from the University of Chicago Hospitals. It is appropriate for many medical conditions; however, there are some conditions and therapy services that cannot be provided at this location. Examples of treatment not available at Henry Crown include orthotic fittings, wound care, hydrotherapy, pelvic physiotherapy, care for neurologic conditions and others. Henry Crown therapy is appropriate for students with acute needs and cannot accommodate students needing long-term treatment. Your health care provider will determine whether Henry Crown services are appropriate. These appointments are available on a limited basis. Once the capacity at this location is reached, students have the option to wait until space is available or receive therapy services under their health insurance at another location.

Option 2: University of Chicago Hospital Physical Therapy

Students may elect to receive physical therapy services from the Department of Physical Therapy either at their hospital or 47th street location. These services will be billed to the student and/or their own health insurance plan. Depending on the students coverage they will be responsible or all or part of these charges. Patients should check with their insurance carrier to discuss their benefits and any restrictions on network or provider. Students who elect to begin a course of treatment with University of Chicago Hospital Physical Therapy may not switch into Henry Crown Therapy during the same course of treatment.

Option 3: Other physical therapy provider

Students may elect to receive physical therapy services from other community providers of therapy services. These services will be billed to the student and/or their own health insurance plan. Depending on the students coverage they will be responsible or all or part of these charges. Patients should check with their insurance carrier to discuss their benefits and any restrictions on network or provider.
